Synchrony of Psalms
Synchrony of Psalms consists of a pair of Psalms from the Hebrew Scriptures; the agonised 22nd Psalm and the transcendent 23rd Psalm. Inspired by Stravinsky's Psalm-based composition, Synchrony seeks to frame these timeless words in a setting reflective of contemporary culture and the eclecticism of post-modern musical style. In our age of high-speed communication and travel, instant access to information and techonological prowess, humans have come as close as ever to divine omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence. Yet we cry out in uncomprehending agony as much as the writer of Psalm 22, and find unreduced comfort in the spiritual balm of Psalm 23. As the music will hopefully express, these Psalms are words for our time, as they have been and will always be for all time.
